Principal, P.S. 297 Abraham Stockton

Brooklyn, New York

James E. Brown began his journey in the NYC Department of Education as a 6th grade teacher, transitioned into an Assistant Principal and is currently the principal of The Stockton Community School, in Brooklyn, New York. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Long Island University. His unwavering passion for educating children and ensuring that they have necessary and equitable resources inspired him to build the collaborative and nurturing environment students and parents enjoy at P.S. 297. Under his leadership, The Stockton School has become the Community School he always envisioned. A one-stop hub of services for students, their parents, and the community. Through partnerships with community-based organizations, he has been able to provide access to the arts, sciences and media. P.S. 297 also provides access to an on-site Food Pantry, Uniform Closet, Adult Education Classes, and Mental Health Services for students and their families. Mr. Brown also serves as the district’s Political Liaison, and meets with different members of the administrator’s union and local and state-level politicians. Here, he advocates for the needs of the students in District 14.
