Suany Ramos is an energetic problem-solver with a demonstrated commitment to building a vibrant PreK–Grade 8 learning community for children and parents on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Serving families struggling with poverty, homelessness, domestic violence and immigration issues, PS/MS 188 is one of 47 NYCDOE-designated “Showcase Schools.” With support from its powerful network of CBO/civic/business partners, it offers extensive wrap-around services, including afterschool/Saturday/summer/vacation programs, on-site medical/mental health services, mentorships, and adult education. Through a Deutsche Bank grant, it is piloting innovative Social-Emotional-Learning programs for at-risk youths. The school received the Coalition for Community Schools’ 2017 national Award for Excellence. Recognized for these accomplishments, Ms. Ramos serves as trainer-mentor for new NYCDOE principals and serves on the Chancellor’s Task Force addressing needs of homeless students, further realizing her goal of improving the lives and futures of NYC’s students. Ms. Ramos holds Masters degrees in Education and Human Development/Leadership from Long Island University.
