Sandra D’Avilar has served as principal of P.S. 9 in Brooklyn since 2004. Under her leadership in 2011, the school was selected as one out of the 10 Whole Child Schools nationwide. Her vision of serving the Whole Child continues to be woven within the school’s fabric and is visible throughout the numerous school-wide initiates that are used to enrich the lives of the students and their parents. The entire school community epitomizes the mission ensuring that each child is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged. The school utilizes numerous partnerships to expose students to Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics. Ms. D’Avilar has created a strong and supportive social and emotional environment to reinforce positive student growth and development. Since 1991, Sandra has worked in District 13 in the following positions; Principal, Assistant Principal, Literacy Coach, Teacher Trainer/mentor, Core Knowledge Facilitator and Classroom Teacher. She has garnered numerous awards, honors and citations and has earned her degrees from Binghamton University and Fordham University.
