Carmen Navarro had the honor of opening Mariano Azuela Elementary School in 2010 on the southwest side of Chicago. The vision and mission of the school has been to continuously seek excellence in a way that will be most natural and unique to the learner. Ms. Navarro obtained her Bachelor’s degree from Pace University and has earned two master degrees from Lewis University and Cambridge College. In the past eight years, Ms. Navarro has established different initiatives with a focus on dual language, STEM, the arts, and increased parental involvement. Ms. Navarro continuously offers Azuela students unique opportunities to become global citizens by enriching their cultural experiences through two international exchange programs with Santiago, Chile and Busan, South Korea as well as establishing an Arabic Club for middle school students. All these have served to sustain Mariano Azuela as a Level 1 school in the City of Chicago.
