Kelly Thigpen has served as Principal of Burnside Scholastic Academy since 2013. Her journey with Chicago Public School began as a business manager intern, while working towards her master's degree in education. Upon completing her master's degree, she began to live her passion for teaching. While teaching Kelly worked on the leadership team, led the math department and served on the Local School Council. Kelly eventually transitioned into a math coach position. Her dedication and commitment to supporting students by way of coaching teachers encouraged her to pursue her administrative certification, which led to her promotion as Assistant Principal. After serving as AP for 7 years, Kelly was offered the job of Principal. Her motto is to educate, motivate and inspire others to be their best. Her background in customer service has been the glue to building strong relationships, which have impacted teacher development and led to student growth.
