The Cahn Fellows Programs Is An Independent 501(c)3 Organization
New York, N.Y.—The Cahn Fellows Programs is pleased to announce the formation of an independent 501 (c ) 3 nonprofit organization. Our mission remains the same which is to improve large urban public school systems nationally by providing distinguished school leaders with advanced professional development and recognition. Our programs are designed to increase leadership skills, retention in education and student outcomes.
Our plan for the next fiscal year is to add the Los Angeles and Clark County (Las Vegas) school districts to our program. We will be serving all five of the largest school districts in the United States including New York, Chicago, Miami as well as Hillsborough County (Tampa), Dallas, San Antonio, Denver, Aurora and Atlanta.
In addition, we are starting alumni programming to further the impact of our work and to strengthen the network of Cahn Fellows who have completed our program.
We are also planning to launch a program for 3-4 year principals in 2022 in order to prepare more principals for further professional development in our program.
We now have Advisory Councils established in all our school districts with the goal of creating strong local ties in each community we serve.
We are maintaining our close partnership with Teachers College, Columbia University and the dedicated faculty who lead our program each year. Professors Ellie Drago Severson, Carolyn Rhiel, Jeffrey Young and Brian Perkins from Teachers College will all be delivering our curriculum to up to 120 participants next year. We also have an array of other leadership experts lined up for content delivery.
We now have a 14-member Board of Directors composed of leaders who are passionate about improving education results in the United States.
We have been administratively embedded at Teachers College since 2002 but as our organization has grown and now serves 11 school districts it has become advantageous for us to form an independent organization.
To launch our new organization, we changed our name to The Cahn Fellows Programs, designed a new logo and created a sparkling new website. Our new name, “The Cahn Fellows Programs” represents the growth of our organization and is symbolized by our new logo and website. Our new logo retains the original tree with 16 leaves (representing our original 16 principal cohorts) but adds our connection with Teachers College and other universities as represented by the academic border.
We are especially pleased to share video testimonials of some of our Atlanta principals which were produced by our Atlanta Advisory Council Leads, Bruce Barfield and Tammy Farley. These videos provide a deeply moving account of the leadership challenges of the principals in our program and the source of inspiration our program has been for them.
